An IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) is a healthcare professional with advanced training in breastfeeding and infant feeding support.

I provide evidence-based support for a wide range of feeding concerns including painful breastfeeding, latching difficulties, nipple pain, low milk supply concerns, expressing, mastitis, bottlefeeding, feeding after tongue tie procedures and for babies recovering from birth or post NICU admissions.

Families seek breastfeeding support for many different reasons. You do not need wait until feeding feels overwhelming before seeking help.

Yes. Home visit lactation consultations are available across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and surrounding areas.

Home visits allow feeding to be assessed in a relaxed and practical environment where families often feel more comfortable and supported.

Yes. Telehealth breastfeeding consultations are available via a secure video platform.

Virtual consultations can be helpful for families outside the local area or for those who prefer online support.

Antenatal breastfeeding education can help families feel more prepared and confident before baby arrives.

These consultations are particularly helpful for:

• first-time parents

• parents who experienced previous feeding challenges

• families wanting realistic and practical feeding preparation

Sessions may include:

• what to expect in the early days

• feeding cues and normal newborn behaviour

• positioning and attachment

• establishing milk supply

• expressing and pumping

• reducing common breastfeeding challenges

• Dispelling infant feeding myths

• addressing individual feeding concerns

During your consultation, I will take a detailed history, observe a feed where appropriate, assess positioning and attachment, and provide personalised feeding support tailored to your family’s needs.

Support may also include:

• weighing baby

• expressing and pumping guidance

• bottle feeding support

• feeding plans

• return-to-work feeding guidance

Initial postnatal consultations are generally 1.5–2 hours.

Follow-up consultations are usually around 1–1.5 hours.

Antenatal consultations are generally around 1.5–2 hours.

It can be helpful if your baby is ready to feed during the consultation, however feeding support can still be provided even if this does not happen.

You may also wish to write down any questions or concerns beforehand.

For telehealth consultations, a quiet space and stable internet connection are recommended.

IBCLC consultations are not currently covered under Medicare.

Invoices can be provided for private health insurance claims where applicable.

Some Australian private health funds offer rebates for IBCLC services.
